Vision and Objectives

The vision for North East Thatcham is to create three distinct and sustainable neighbourhoods, defined by their landscape setting, connected to each other and to the wider town, and contributing positively to the local community.

The aim is to create places with a strong sense of identity, rooted in the local landscape, history and built character of the Kennet Valley, where people of all ages and backgrounds can live, connect and thrive.

Place

The development will create a distinctive place with a clear identity, reflecting the area’s history, built form and landscape. It will be well connected, with strong walking, cycling and public transport links to jobs, education and services. Spaces will be designed to be welcoming, accessible and safe, encouraging people to spend time outdoors and engage with their surroundings.

People

The proposals aim to support healthy lifestyles, with opportunities for physical activity and access to green space. Streets and public spaces will be designed to encourage social interaction and community activity. A mix of homes will be provided to meet a range of needs, including affordable housing, helping to create a balanced and inclusive community.

Purpose

The development will promote active lifestyles by integrating walking, cycling and recreation into everyday life. It will respond to the challenges of climate change through sustainable design and efficient use of resources. Green infrastructure will support biodiversity, creating connected habitats and delivering measurable biodiversity net gain.
